#Giving
With 2011 complete and my 100 hours surpassed, my next challenge will be to give something away daily…starting now! We all have something to give, be it time, expertise, or presence, so I will focus on mine for the year.
*I’ve decided to include additional thoughts and reactions to the “gift”, when appropriate. The goal of giving is not to receive but the reaction can be nice encouragement, at times, and I am by nature a “recorder”, so why not relate the associated positives?
TODAY:
2.6 - Today, I had the opportunity to help someone move their broken-down car out of the way, in the rain! Great experience!!
*I LOVED this opportunity to give! Every time I see someone helping another (even TV commercials) my heart bursts with joy. I feel bad when I see someone with car trouble and do not know what assistance to offer or I am in a state of rush and do not stop to do so. Today was my opportunity though! I was leaving work, it was raining lightly, and there was a car blocking my turn. The woman was struggling to push the car out of the way, by herself, which involved a slight incline. I parked my car and headed over to help. Together we pushed the car out of the way (hooray for sensible pumps!), as other cars passed by [they missed out on the fun!]. The most beautiful part of this adventure is that once we got the car in place, she was so focused on coming back to thank me she was getting out before putting the car in park. I reminded her to do this (with much excitement) but was so very thrilled that had been her priority. GREAT DAY!!
The goal of the day had actually been to give people my undivided attention (and not multi-task with them as I frequently do). I was pretty successful with this task and think this opportunity definitely fits!
2.5 - Today, I donated two hours of my time to a soup kitchen.
2.4 - Today, I gave my energy and thoughts to a wonderful gathering of women, I received much in return.
2.3 - So the direct component of giving is receiving…Today I received assistance with my career goal.
*I’ve been listening to Tony Robbins and he explained that he always used to give and didn’t like to receive but what this did was deny other people the opportunity to give. So while the assistance I received with my career goal was not about me giving *today*, it is my goal that it will assist me in years to come with being able to support and give to people.
2.2 - Today, the main thing I gave was support and encouragement.
2.1 - Today, I gave everyone I encountered a smile and for those too far away to see, I waved.
*The goal for today was to make connections with everyone I encountered, if only a smile. I enjoyed connecting with strangers as I more often pretend I am invisible and they can’t see me.
